Growing plants: there are many of us who find ourselves with homes that have no gardens, but who still endeavor to grow some domestic plants. And whilst there are some indoors plants that can be grown, these don't tend to provide the 'image' we yearn for: which in most cases can only be provided by outdoors plants, grown with natural light and integrated to the natural surroundings. In the absence of a garden, the patio would be the ideal place to grow such plants. A patio tends to be semi-enclosed, meaning that the plants will get natural light and be growing in a natural setting (save for the fact that they may have to be potted). And the most beautiful thing here is the fact that using the patio to grow such plants wouldn't make it unsuitable for other purposes. If anything, it is one of the things you may need to do, in rehabilitating it to make it suitable for other purposes such as relaxing.
Most patios are sited immediately adjacent to the rear exit from the house because it is convenient - this may not be the best location for your patio. The back of the house may be shaded all day and therefore not ideal if you wish to like to sit in the sun. Consider a small terrace to the rear of the house with another seating area somewhere else in the garden which gets more sun. When designing a garden it's a good idea to include more than one patio.. One patio can be sited so that it catches the last of the evening sun to provide a warm spot for an evening drink or meal. This makes the garden much more interesting and ensures that you are using more of the garden.
Make sure you keep up on all the repairs to prevent anything from breaking. Keep your eye out for cracks and rotten wood on either the patio itself or its furniture. Remember even if your patio looks amazing damaged equipment and furniture will really hurt its appeal. Don't make excuses to pass up on repairing damaged items, remember the repairs are an investment ensuring that your property does not break while simultaneously raising the value of your home
